As you may be aware, this qualification was due to expire on 31 May 2007. However, I am pleased to inform you that this date has now been extended for a further year to the following dates:
Last registration date: 31 August 2009
Last certification date: 31 August 2012
These qualifications have been developed to recognise candidates' skills, knowledge and understanding as specialist teachers and their ability to carry out diagnostic assessments, write reports and deliver effective teaching sessions to learners with dyslexia and other learning difficulties affecting literacy and numeracy.
Whilst recognising that learners with dyslexia may experience a variety of difficulties in addition to the acquisition of fluent, age-appropriate word-level skills, educators working with this group should know how to address intransigent difficulties with learning to read and spell single words, as well as problems arising at later stages of literacy development and with other aspects of learning.
These qualifications are designed primarily to provide a route for continued professional development for teachers/trainers with responsibility for learners with specific learning difficulties in literacy and numeracy acquisition. These difficulties may also affect communication and interaction. The qualifications are appropriate for teachers/trainers with responsibility for SpLD across a whole age phase/centre and who are involved in advising and supporting classroom teachers.
