Overview

The OCR Certificates in FE Teaching have been developed to recognise candidates' abilities to teach and support learning in a post-16 context. They have been designed to develop and accredit the breadth of knowledge and skills required by teachers to develop and manage learning programmes and undertake a high level of responsibility in managing the learning process.

Specification aims

They aim to develop candidates' skills and knowledge and to recognise their achievements in a practical way that is relevant to the work context and reflects the professional values of teachers in the FE environment. It is anticipated that much of the practical evidence required to meet the assessment requirements of the qualification will be naturally occurring. The qualification has been designed to be context-free and, therefore, meets the needs of teachers working across all subject/vocational areas.

The qualifications have been designed to meet the Department for Education and Skills' requirement that all teachers in further education must achieve nationally recognised teacher's qualifications. They now appear on the Further Education National Training Organisation's list of endorsed qualifications.

The OCR Certificates in FE Teaching, at all three stages, are based on the FENTO Standards for Teaching and Supporting Learning in FE.

These qualifications will be appropriate for those who wish to gain a teaching qualification in a post-16 context. They will meet the needs of intending teachers and those who are already employed in a teaching position (either full-time or part-time).

  • Stage 1 - Level 4: This qualification will be particularly appropriate for part-time teachers and for those who have no previous experience of teaching in a Further Education context.
  • Stage 2 - Level 4: This qualification will be particularly appropriate for teachers who are working in a variety of learning situations and who are beginning to take responsibility for planning and managing learning programmes.
  • Stage 3 - Level 5: This qualification will be particularly appropriate for teachers who are working in a variety of learning situations and who have responsibility for planning and managing learning programmes.
