Overview

We are pleased to announce that the OCR Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing will be open for registration from 1 October 2007.

This qualification has been designed as an access route for people who want to work in the exercise and fitness industry. It provides evidence of an individual's competence in fitness instructing and enables individuals to gain access to the Register of Exercise Professionals at Level 2. It has been developed to reflect modern practices in teaching exercise and fitness.

Candidates are required to complete 3 units in order to achieve the full award 2 mandatory units and one optional unit. It can be taken in 3 different contexts as follows:

  • Exercise to music
  • Gym
  • Water-based

An additional unit in Circuits is available on completion of the qualification in another context.

The OCR Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing recognises the achievement of basic skills and knowledge in a controlled and safe environment. It forms a basis for progression to the full NVQ at Level 2 whereby candidates demonstrate their skillls in a place of employment and also onto a Level 3 VRQ. This qualification is appropriate to those people who are new to teaching exercise and fitness. It is aimed at candidates of 18 years of age and over. Whilst candidates who are under 18 years of age are not barred, they are likely to experience difficulty in obtaining the personal liability insurance cover needed to work in this area.
