Health and Safety is an area that covers all occupations and sectors of employment. The OCR Competence Awards in Health and Safety for People at Work are designed to raise awareness of health and safety issues in the workplace. They are particularly relevant to those whose work involves a health and safety focus or responsibility.
The qualifications within this suite are based on eight stand-alone NVQ units in health and safety. These units were developed by the Employment NTO and are endorsed by the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) and the Health and Safety Executive.
The OCR Competence Award in Managing Safety and Investigation is intended for those who have a responsibility for the development and monitoring of health and safety procedures, undertaking risk assessments and investigating health and safety incidents and complaints.
To achieve the full award, candidates must achieve five mandatory units (Units A, B, C, F and G).
Like all NVQ unit based awards, this qualification is competence based. This means that it is linked to the candidate's ability to competently perform a range of tasks connected with their work. Candidates plan a programme of development and assessment with their assessor and compile a portfolio of evidence to prove that they are competent and knowledgeable in their work role.
