Overview

This qualification has been designed as an access route for people who want to work in the exercise and fitness industry. It provides evidence of an individual's competence in teaching exercise and fitness, and enables individuals to gain personal liability insurance. It has been developed to reflect modern practices in teaching exercise and fitness.

Candidates are required to complete four units in order to achieve the full award - three mandatory units and one optional unit. It can be taken in six different exercise and fitness contexts as follows:

  • exercise to music
  • gym
  • circuits
  • step
  • aqua
  • pilates

The OCR Level 2 Certificate in Teaching Exercise and Fitness recognises the achievement of basic skills and knowledge in a controlled and safe environment. It forms a basis for progression to the full NVQ at Level 2 whereby candidates demonstrate their skills in a place of employment.

This qualification is appropriate to those people who are new to teaching exercise and fitness. It is aimed at candidates of 18 years of age and over. Whilst candidates who are under 18 years of age are not barred, they are likely to experience difficulty in obtaining the personal liability insurance cover needed to work in this area.
