In the circular 2006/24, the Department of Education indicated that "the Statutory Programmes of Study are discontinued from the beginning of 2006/07 academic year. The aim of the revised curriculum is to give schools the flexibility to tailor the curriculum more fully to meet the need of the pupils".

The Entitlement Framework

OCR's wide range of provision will support centres as they choose general and/or applied qualifications for each of the six Areas of Learning within the Entitlement Framework.

As an example, taking just Science from within the Area of Science and Technology, the OCR provision includes:

  • Two GCSE suites (Gateway and Twenty First Century)
  • GCSE Applied Science
  • GCSE Environmental and Land Based Science (e-assessed)
  • Entry level Science
  • GCE A/AS Applied Science
  • GCE A/AS single subjects
  • OCR National Level 2 Science

In addition OCR offers a range of vocational related qualifications at Entry Level, Level 1 and Level 2. For schools seeking to provide shorter term goals for their students in the Area of Learning for Life and Work, certificates such as the Certificate in Career Planning and the Certificate in Preparation for Employment will support the delivery of the statutory minimum content for the employability element. The candidates use an evidence booklet in which to collect their evidence as they progress.

With reference to the Skills and Capabilities identified in the Entitlement Framework, from Sept 2007 OCR will be undertaking live pilots in GCSE English, ICT and Maths to pilot the incorporation of the skills of Communication, Using Mathematics and Using ICT within the relevant GCSE.
