Overview

These qualifications are designed to provide candidates with recognition for their ability to use their mathematical knowledge to make sense of and describe real world situations and to solve problems. Those who gain Free Standing Mathematics Qualifications can follow a pathway to employment or further education.

Each of the qualifications is assessed by a combination of a written examination and portfolio of work which carry equal weightings. The individual qualifications can be combined (with an additional unit) to achieve AS Use of Mathematics but cannot be combined with other AS units or with any A2 unit.

The qualifications are at Level 3 of the National Qualifications Framework.

Free Standing Mathematics Qualifications are primarily targeted at candidates who need a Mathematics qualification but do not want to take an AS/A Level course.
