Overview

This course is designed to provide accreditation for the skills developed by learners following the Adult Numeracy Curriculum at Entry Level. Students can be assessed at Entry 1, Entry 2 or Entry 3.

The OCR Entry Level Certificate in Adult Numeracy is part the OCR suite of basic skills qualifications. The other qualifications in the suite are Adult Literacy and ICT Skills for Life.

The qualifications have been designed to offer flexible assessment and administration arrangements:

  • Students do not need to be named on entry.
  • The qualification is unit based.
  • Full and unit entry is available.
  • Students can work towards the most appropriate level for their individual needs.
  • There are no time constraints on when students work has to be submitted to OCR.
  • All units achieved will be certificated.
  • Certificates will state the level of achievement in each unit achieved.
  • All assessment objectives have been referenced to the core curriculum.
  • Students evidence sheets are provided to aid the recording/tracking of students evidence.
  • All units are assessed by the tutor and moderated by OCR.
  • Sample tasks are provided in the tutor's handbook and on the OCR website to allow students to practice their skills.

Adult literacy and numeracy qualifications are mainly taken by adult learners but currently can be used for 14-19 year olds. Funding for adult literacy and numeracy qualifications for 14-19 year old learners will cease from 1 August 2011 in line with the planned implementation of functional skills and in the context of the 14-19 qualifications strategy. The government's intention is to replace the existing Skills for Life literacy and numeracy qualifications with Functional Skills qualifications from September 2012, subject to the current pilot confirming that Functional Skills qualifications effectively meet adult needs.
