No. The new specification is assessed entirely through written examinations.

Has the content of the new specification changed significantly from that of the current specification?

There have been significant changes in the new specification to meet the QCA subject criteria and to meet customers' needs.  Many areas of content from the current specification are still present in the new specification, some have a different focus and there are also some new areas. For a more detailed breakdown of specification content please see the specification.

Is it possible to take a combination of Classical Civilisation units and other units from the Classics Suite?

It is possible to combine any of the units from the Classics Suite. Please see the Summary of specification for Classics.

Is it still possible to study Ancient History?

Yes, although there is no certification title 'Ancient History', there is Ancient history content in many of the new Classical Civilisation units. Some units have a stronger history focus than others. Please see the specification.

What additional support and guidance is offered?

The specification provides detailed guidance about the content of each unit. There will also be a detailed resources list for the Classical Civilisation units. In addition OCR is currently developing teacher support and programmes of INSET to support the new specification. More information on support will appear on the website after QCA accreditation.
