Overview

This qualification is offered on behalf of the Department for Transport. You will find it suitable if you wish to enter the profession of Road Haulage Transport Management or demonstrate your professional competence to meet the Operator Licensing requirements. The qualification includes a range of subjects related to the business of Road Haulage Transport Management. The areas specified in EU Directive 98/76/EC are assessed.

Your qualification will be assessed through a combination of multiple choice, and case study based unit examinations. The full qualification is awarded when you have passed the appropriate combination of units. In order to achieve a Certificate in Road Haulage, you must pass two multiple-choice papers and a case study paper.

  • Unit 1 - Understanding the legal and business context for Road Transport Operations (30 multiple choice questions) 05598
  • Unit 2 - Understanding National Road Haulage Transport Operations (40 multiple choice questions) 05599
  • Unit 4 - Managing National Road Haulage Transport Operations (case study scenario based questions) 05608

It is planned that unit 1 will also be available as an on-screen test at a later date.

NORTHERN IRELAND CANDIDATES

Separate unit 2 multiple-choice papers (05600) are provided at the June examinations for those candidates wishing to study and operate in Northern Ireland.

Upgrading

Updating from pre-October 1999 National to International certificates

Candidates who achieved their National Certificate prior to October 1999 can no longer upgrade to an International Certificate simply by sitting Module 6 or 7 alone. This means that candidates who wish to obtain and International CPC from September 2004 must take the full international examinations.

This decision was made a number for years ago, when the format of the qualification significantly changed to include case study papers. The decision to make this change was taken by the Transport Qualification Committee, made up, in part by representatives from industry and professional bodies including the Road Haulage Association and the Department of Transport.
