We offer the following reviews of marking services. Please see our key dates page for the relevant deadlines.

What’s on this page

Service 2 review Priority service 2 Services 2a and 2b Candidate consent Fees Submitting a review Acknowledgements and outcomes Amending or cancelling your review Making an appeal

Service 2 review

A service 2 post-results review of marking is carried out to make sure the agreed mark scheme has been applied correctly, and includes the clerical checks applied in a clerical check (service 1). In most cases, you can expect to receive the outcome of these requests in approximately one week.

Priority service 2

A priority service 2 is the same as a service 2, but is only available for AS and A Levels, Cambridge Technicals (and other Level 3 qualifications) in the June series. The priority service 2 has an earlier deadline than the standard service 2 review of marking (see our key dates). We aim to complete these reviews by 31 August.

Services 2a and 2b

We also offer the following services for vocational qualifications:

  • Service 2a is a review of marking of externally assessed units/components for an individual candidate, with a written report.
  • Service 2b is a review of marking of externally assessed units/components for a group of candidates (between five and 15) with a single written report on the work of the group of candidates.

Both of these services include the checks applied in a clerical check.

Candidate consent

Before submitting a review, centres must obtain the written consent of candidates for clerical checks and reviews of marking since, with these services, candidates’ marks and subject grades may be lowered.

Written candidate consent is not required for a review of moderation as candidates’ marks may be lowered but their published subject grades will not be lowered in the series concerned. However, be aware a lowered mark may be carried forward to future certification.

By submitting your online application, you are confirming candidate consent has already been obtained. Copies of candidate consent forms do not need to be sent to OCR, but should be retained at your centre for at least six months following the outcome of the review or any subsequent appeal.

A sample candidate consent form is provided below:

Fees

For clerical checks and reviews of marking, you will not be charged for your review if the certification grade changes or, for unitised qualifications, if the unit grade changes. For reviews of moderation, you will not be charged if your centre marks are reinstated.

We’ll send an invoice when the review is complete. Invoices will usually be sent in the following months:

  • November series – March
  • January series – April
  • June series – December

A more detailed explanation of our charging policy can be found below. For a full list of charges, see our fees list.

Submitting a review

To submit a review, please complete the online form:

Request Cambridge Technicals post-results services

Acknowledgements and outcomes

The outcome of each review will be confirmed by email.

Where a grade changes and a certificate has already been issued, a replacement will be issued showing the revised grade once the centre returns the original to OCR.

Amending or cancelling your review

Once you have submitted a review of marking or moderation, if you wish to amend or cancel your request:

  1. Email your request to vq.reviewofresults@ocr.org.uk.
  2. Please include your centre number, candidate number(s) and unit and/or component number(s) in the email.
  3. We will then contact you to confirm whether or not your request has been accepted. If the review has already begun, the request cannot be cancelled.
  4. If you request a cancellation and it is accepted, you will be charged 50% of the original fee.
  5. If you change your original request, e.g. from a clerical check to a review of marking, the relevant fee will be applied.
