Qualification update

OCR is currently reforming its GCSEs, AS and A Level in line with the government programme of general qualification reform. However, awarding bodies have made the difficult decision not to redevelop the AS/A Level Home Economics qualifications.

AS and A Level qualifications in Home Economics are not currently being redeveloped by any awarding bodies. However, centres may wish to look on the Ofqual Register of Regulated Qualifications for information on Level 3 Certificates and vocational qualifications in this subject area.

This new specification allows candidates to develop an understanding of issues relating to society and health, resource management, nutrition and food production.

Benefits

  • Emphasis on the practical aspects of home economics.
  • Simple, straightforward assessment.
  • Cuts the assessment burden on students with four units instead of six.
  • Excellent preparation for students wishing to pursue careers in nutrition and food science.
