The Cambridge International General Certificate of Secondary Education (Cambridge IGCSE) is available through our sister organisation, Cambridge Assessment International Education. Their international qualifications are recognised by the world’s best universities and employers, giving students a wide range of options in their education and career.
Cambridge IGCSE is the world’s most popular international qualification for 14 to 16 year olds. It is recognised by leading universities and employers worldwide and is an international passport to progression and success.
For schools, Cambridge IGCSE offers a flexible and stimulating curriculum, supported with excellent resources and training. For learners, Cambridge IGCSE develops skills in creative thinking, enquiry and problem solving. It is the perfect springboard for advanced study, including Cambridge International AS and A Level and Cambridge Pre-U.
With the introduction of UK 9-1 graded GCSEs, the UK Department for Education announced that International GCSEs would no longer count in school performance tables. For this reason, many state schools in the UK no longer feel able to offer Cambridge IGCSEs.
Cambridge IGCSE is benchmarked to the standard of UK GCSE, using a range of statistical and judgemental evidence to ensure that the awarding standards of each are comparable. There is a great deal of overlap between UK GCSEs and Cambridge IGCSE, though Cambridge IGCSE remains a distinct qualification, offering schools in the UK the choice of an international qualification.
Cambridge IGCSEs are graded A*-G worldwide. From 2018, however, a number of its most popular subjects have been made available with a 9-1 grading in the UK. The syllabus and examinations are identical. Schools can choose their grading system when they make entries for the examination. Information about the 9-1 graded Cambridge IGCSEs is available on their website.
