A Level English Literature & Language anthology (version 4) artwork competition (the “Competition”) Terms & Conditions
Eligibility
Entry to the Competition is only open to all students residing in the UK aged 16 to 19 and who attend an OCR Verified Centre in the UK.
Entry and Competition
The Oxford Cambridge RSA (“OCR”) Examinations Board, at The Triangle Building, Shaftesbury Road, Cambridge, CB2 8EA is the promoter of this Competition. The purpose of this Competition is to select a winning artwork for the book cover of the A Level English Literature & Language anthology (version 4) publication.
The Competition will run from midnight on 30 October 2023 (the "Opening Date") to midnight on 12 January 2024 (the "Closing Date") inclusive.
All Competition entries must be received by OCR at the following address: The Triangle Building, Shaftesbury Road, Cambridge, CB2 8EA or if by email at
ocrenglish@ocr.org.uk
by no later than midnight on the Closing Date. All Competition entries received after the Closing Date are automatically disqualified.
Entry to the Competition is free, however all materials for the production and submission of entry, in all forms, must be provided by the entrants.
To enter the Competition, an OCR Verified Centre must first register at by completing the
online registration form
. Teachers may then submit the entry on behalf of the entrant and may submit multiple entries, but only three entries per entrant is allowed. For the avoidance of doubt, there is a limit of three entries to the Competition per student.
Entries to the Competition must be submitted using the official entry form for each entry that is submitted. Any entry not made on the official entry form, or which is incomplete, illegible, defaced or a copy of an official form will be rejected. OCR shall not be responsible for late, lost or delayed entries or network, computer hardware or software failures of any kind that may delay or restrict entry to the Competition.
OCR will not accept Competition entries that are:
automatically generated by computer or created by artificial intelligence, (including but not limited to chatbots such as ChatGPT or similar software applications)
completed by third parties or bulk
illegible, have been altered, reconstructed, forged or tampered with
photocopies and not originals
contravene clause 2.K.
incomplete.
Entries should be submitted in portrait format and should be prepared as CMYK, and 300dpi in either .jpeg, .tif or .pdf. OCR will not accept any entries in web format such as .gif, webp, or .png.
Entries can be in any style, (e.g. abstract, impressionist, cartoon, etc) [except graffiti-style] and can use any colours, or simply be black and white. Any 2D medium such as drawing, painting, digital photography, computerized, collage or photographic collage may be used for the artwork. However, entries must be submitted in digital form only. This may be a digital photograph of the 2D artwork, a scan or a digital drawing/painting.
Other than those set out in section 2.K. below, digital adjustments to photographs are permitted, providing that they comply with the Competition’s principles of authenticity i.e. they do not deceive the viewer or misrepresent the reality of what was originally captured by the camera. For example, cropping noise reduction and minor cleaning work (e.g. removal of sensor dust or scratches on transparencies/scans, removal of chromatic aberration, lens distortion and vignetting) is permitted.
For the avoidance of doubt the following digital adjustments are not permitted: adding, moving or removing objects, the removal of dirt, highlights, backscatter, bubbles, debris and similar; composites; painting the foreground / painting out the background or AI generated photographs or images. If any post-processing method adds new image content to the photograph via AI algorithms or by manual intervention, the resulting photograph/image will have contravened these Terms and Conditions.
Entries must not offend or be likely to offend, depict or condone violence, cause distress, or contain explicit or offensive material (e.g. pornography, racial discrimination, etc.). Such determination will be made by OCR and OCR’s decision on the matter is final and binding.
Submission of an entry is confirmation that it is the entrant’s own original artwork and that it does not infringe the intellectual property rights or copyright of a third party.
OCR will not return any submitted hardcopy entries.
OCR will not enter into any communication or correspondence regarding individual entries, will not be liable for any loss or damage, however caused, to any entries, and bears no responsibility for incomplete or delayed entries.
Winning entry
Entries will be judged on their artistic merits (taking into consideration the age category) and creative responses to the Competition brief. Entries will be anonymous for judging purposes.
The judges will pick one winning entrant. The winning entrant will win one cash voucher worth £50 (GBP) and their respective OCR Verified Centre will receive a book voucher worth £250 for books from the Cambridge University Press bookshop.
The judges’ decision is final and binding in all matters and no correspondence will be entered into. The names of the judges will be made available on request, subject to applicable law.
The winner will be notified by phone/email by 29 February 2024. If the prize is not claimed within 72 hours of being notified, OCR reserves the right to determine a new winner. The name and school or centre of the winner will be posted on the OCR website from 1 March 2024.
All winners must be able to provide the original artwork or image to OCR upon request.
Winning entrants shall not object to any cropping or other minor alteration of their artwork entry when used inside or outside the remit of this Competition.
Winning artworks will be subject to the parent/guardian of the entrant consenting on the entrants’ behalf, to assign to OCR all intellectual property rights in the winning entry, with full title guarantee and a waiver of all royalties and moral rights in and to the winning entry and otherwise arising in connection with the winning entry to which the entrant may now or at any time in the future be entitled under the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 as amended from time to time and under all similar legislation from time to time in force anywhere in the world.
Winners agree to take part in promotional activities including publicity if required to do so. Where required the parent or guardian of the winner will be asked to sign any necessary consents or permissions as part of this Competition.
OCR must either publish or make available information that indicates that a valid award took place. To comply with this obligation, OCR will publish the surname and county of the prize winner and, if applicable, their winning entry on its website on 1 March 2024.
If the winning entrant objects to any or all of their surname, county and winning entry being published or made available, please contact the Subject Advisors at

. In such circumstances, OCR must still provide the information and winning entry to the Advertising Standards Authority on request.
Data Protection
OCR will only process your personal information as set out in our
privacy policy

General
Insofar as is permitted by law, OCR, its agents or distributors will not in any circumstances be responsible or liable to compensate the winner or accept any liability for any loss, damage, personal injury or death occurring as a result of taking up the prize except where it is caused by the negligence of OCR, its agents or distributors or that of their employees. This does not affect statutory rights.
If there is any reason to believe that there has been a breach of these terms and conditions, OCR may, at its sole discretion, reserve the right to exclude an entrant from participating in the Competition.
OCR reserves the right to hold void, suspend, cancel, or amend the prize Competition at any stage where it becomes necessary (or if it is beyond OCR’s reasonable control) to do so and OCR will have no liability to the entrants in respect of any such cancellation.
These terms and conditions are governed by and construed in accordance with English law and the courts of England and Wales shall have exclusive jurisdiction to settle any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with them.
