Service 2 review

A service 2 post-results review of marking is carried out to make sure the agreed mark scheme has been applied correctly, and includes the clerical checks applied in a clerical check (service 1). In most cases, you can expect to receive the outcome of these requests in approximately one week.

Candidate consent

Before submitting a review, centres must obtain the written consent of candidates for clerical checks and reviews of marking since, with these services, candidates’ marks and subject grades may be lowered.

Written candidate consent is not required for a review of moderation as candidates’ marks may be lowered but their published subject grades will not be lowered in the series concerned. However, be aware a lowered mark may be carried forward to future certification.

By submitting your online application, you are confirming candidate consent has already been obtained. Copies of candidate consent forms do not need to be sent to OCR, but should be retained at your centre for at least six months following the outcome of the review or any subsequent appeal.

A sample candidate consent form is provided below:

Fees

For clerical checks and reviews of marking, you will not be charged for your review if the certification grade changes or, for unitised qualifications, if the unit grade changes. For reviews of moderation, you will not be charged if your centre marks are reinstated.

We’ll send an invoice when the review is complete. Invoices will usually be sent in the following months:

  • November series – March
  • January series – April
  • June series – December

A more detailed explanation of our charging policy can be found below. For a full list of charges, see our fees list.

Requesting a review

All reviews must be submitted via Interchange. You need either the centre administrator (GQ) or post-result full access (GQ) role to access the relevant areas.

For help on getting started with Interchange, or updating your user roles, see our Interchange pages.

To request a review:

  1. Log in to Interchange, hover over ‘Post-results’ in the left-hand menu and click on ‘Review of results’.
  2. Click on the relevant service you require.

    Submit_EAR_1
  3. On the next page, enter your name and contact details.
  4. If you are requesting a review for a specific candidate, enter a candidate number. If you are requesting a review for multiple candidates, enter a specification/unit code. Click ‘Find’.
  5. If you would like a copy of the reviewed script, select the relevant box(es) in the ‘Copy of scripts required?’ section on the review request screen.

  6. Click ‘Submit’.
  7. You will then receive an acknowledgement email.

What happens next?

When your review is complete, you will receive an email to let you know when a new outcome is available to view on Interchange:

  1. Log in to Interchange, hover over ‘Post-results’ in the left-hand menu and click on ‘Review of results’.
  2. Scroll down to the ‘View submitted reviews of results’ section.

    View_EAR_1
  3. Click ‘View existing reviews of results’ to view all submitted reviews, including those still awaiting an outcome.
  4. Or, click ‘Search existing reviews of results' and enter a unit number/component details, or candidate number or surname, and click ‘Search’.
  5. You can then view all existing reviews for that unit/component or candidate.
  6. Click the reference number to see changes to a particular candidate's mark and grade.

If you requested a copy of the script, this will be uploaded to Interchange within ten working days.

Amending or cancelling your review

Once you have submitted a review of marking or moderation, if you wish to amend or cancel your request:

  1. Please call our Review of Results team immediately (01223 553998), with your centre number, candidate number(s) and unit and/or component number(s) to hand.
  2. We will then contact you to confirm whether or not your request has been accepted. If the review has already begun, the request cannot be cancelled.
  3. Any further steps will be advised over the phone, including how to make sure you have an audit trail.

If you request a cancellation and it is accepted, you will be charged 50% of the original fee.

If you change your original request, e.g. from a review of marking to a priority review, the relevant fee will be applied.

Unhappy with your review outcome?

If you didn’t request a copy of the reviewed script as part of your review, but you are unhappy with the outcome, you can still contact our post-results team to make a request at copyscripts@ocr.org.uk.

You’ll need to provide your centre number, plus the candidate and unit number/component details for the script you're requesting.

The script will be made available via Interchange within ten working days.

Following a service 2 review, the script you request will contain annotations added by the examiner (service 1 reviews involve a clerical check rather than a review by an examiner). To find out more about these, see our script annotation page.

The outcomes of individual units or components will be added to Interchange as soon as they’re available. The overall qualification result will not be updated until all the unit/component outcomes are available.
