Executive team

Chief Executive - Jill Duffy

Chief Executive - Jill Duffy Jill joined OCR as Chief Executive in November 2018, bringing over 25 years’ experience in education to the role.

Jill led the UK schools business at education company Pearson for five years, where she was responsible for more than 450 staff across product management and development, marketing and sales, spanning qualifications, digital and print learning services.

Prior to that, Jill spent 22 years in educational publishing. She began her education career as an editor at Oxford University Press and subsequently worked for publishers including Hodder & Stoughton, Harcourt, and Ginn. She has a PGCE and a degree in English Literature from Oxford University.

Director of Assessment - Sylke Scheiner

Sylke Scheiner Sylke is the Director of Assessment at OCR, with responsibility for the standard and quality of all assessments from development stage to the issue of results; for research and technical services; for OCR’s subject advisor teams, and for the relationship management with all of OCR’s examiners and assessors. Before that, Sylke was the Executive Director of the National Examinations Unit at the Quality Assurance Authority for Education and Training (QAAET) in Bahrain, implementing a new national testing system for the country.

Prior to joining QAAET, she was Head of 14-19 Qualifications for OCR, with responsibility for A Levels, GCSEs and all other general and vocational qualifications for the age group. Before that, Sylke worked in various roles within Cambridge Assessment International Education and prior to that, she was in charge of the qualifications department of the then Institute of Logistics.

Sylke holds a German teaching degree in English and Music, an MA in Linguistics from the Freie Universitaet Berlin, an MBA from the Open University and an MA from Cambridge University. She has experience of teaching from primary to university level, both in Germany and in the UK, and extensive experience of academic and vocational assessment worldwide, having worked with education systems in the UK, Bahrain, Germany, Singapore, Namibia and Mauritius.

Director of Operations - David Bosworth

David BosworthDavid is Director of Operations and responsible for the wide range of OCR’s examination services including the collection and delivery of over five million examination entries and results, the production of OCR’s assessment materials and the turnaround of all OCR’s post results services. David manages OCR’s relations with Group Infrastructure Services (IS) for the delivery of print, IS development and ongoing IS service delivery, as well as heading up OCR’s Operational Systems Programmes responsible for OCR’s transition to new operational models and business processes.

David has over 16 years’ experience delivering operational change in the UK assessment sector. He has a strong background in operations management and has previously worked in the logistics and global supply chain arena, managing large national third party contracts on behalf of the Tibbett & Britten Group.

Director of Product - Peter Canning

Peter CanningPeter joined OCR as Director of Product in April 2017 with responsibility for the development and management of OCR’s products and their commercial performance.

He previously worked for Pearson Education in Head of Product Management roles for both vocational and academic qualifications. Before joining Pearson in 2008, Peter worked at Cambridge University Press, initially as a Science Editor and then progressing to become Publishing Manager for Science and Maths titles. Peter has a PhD in Physical Organic Chemistry and a BSc in Medicinal Chemistry from Newcastle University.

Director of Regulation - Myles McGinley

Myles McGinleyMyles is responsible for ensuring OCR’s regulatory compliance, quality management and governance are of the highest standard. Joining OCR in August 2019, he is also OCR’s Responsible Officer and provides focus to our work with Ofqual, Qualifications Wales and CCEA, to deliver qualifications that are best for teachers, and best for learners. He works on these areas, as well as business continuity planning, across OCR’s parent organisation, Cambridge Assessment.

Myles has over 13 years’ experience leading teams in the education services sector focused on developing products that help learners and teachers realise their potential. These have spanned academic and vocational qualifications, digital qualifications services, published resources and professional development. Before joining OCR, Myles was at education company Pearson, most recently as Product Director for vocational qualifications. He began his career as an English language teacher before moving into educational publishing.

Director of Sales and Marketing – Chris Powley

Chris PowleyChris joined OCR in July 2016 as Sales and Marketing Director. He has responsibility for promoting and selling OCR’s qualifications and services to key curriculum decision-makers, focusing on schools, sixth form colleges and FE colleges. Chris is also responsible for OCR’s customer service and support teams, including exams officer support and communications.

Chris brings over 35 years of teaching and commercial experience to his role at OCR. After completing a maths and economics degree and a PGCE, Chris taught secondary maths for fourteen years in Canterbury, Kent. He was appointed as one of the country’s youngest senior teachers at Simon Langton Girls’ Grammar School where his responsibilities included curriculum development.

Chris has spent over twenty years as a senior commercial leader with the UK’s leading education companies, including RM plc, Heinemann, Nelson Thornes and Pearson.
