Cambridge Advanced Nationals, our new Level 3 Alternative Academic Qualifications, are available for first teaching in 2025.
All our Level 3 180 GLH (AS Level size) and 360 GLH (A Level size) Alternative Academic Qualification Cambridge Advanced Nationals have been approved for inclusion on key stage 5 performance tables in England from 1 August 2025.
These new qualifications follow the recent Department for Education decision to reform the qualifications system for students aged 16 and over. Our post-16 reform hub page explains more about what reform could mean for you and your post-16 curriculum. This reform and its timeframes might be subject to review under this or any future government. This could potentially result in a continuation of funding for our current Cambridge Technical Level 3 qualifications, which, under those circumstances, we would expect to continue to offer.
Continue teaching Cambridge Technicals with confidence
You can continue teaching our current Cambridge Technicals Level 3 qualifications with confidence in 2023/24. Apart from the Level 3 Cambridge Technical (2016) Diploma in IT (720 GLH) and the Level 3 Cambridge Technical (2016) Extended Diploma in IT (1080 GLH), which are to be defunded in July 2024, our other Level 3 Cambridge Technicals are unaffected in 2024/25. If there were to be a change to existing policies, for example, due to a change of government, this reform may be reviewed which could lead to a continuation of funding for current Level 3 qualifications.
