Alongside GCSEs and A Levels, hundreds of thousands of results were also issued for vocational and technical qualifications (VTQs).

For vocational and technical performance table qualifications, between 1 March and 31 August 2026 a total of 614,760 results at pass or above were issued in England – up 1.1% on last year. These include:

Level 2 and below

More than 374,000 results were issued for Level 1 and 2 vocational and technical qualifications in summer 2026.

Results for technical awards such as Cambridge Nationals are up 5% (to 363,210). The most commonly taken subjects are similar to previous years with leisure/travel and tourism, and health/public services and care the two most popular subject areas.

In addition, 11,185 technical certificate results were issued, down 10% on last year. Nearly two-thirds of all technical certificates are in one of two subject sector areas - either construction, planning and the built environment or agriculture, horticulture and animal care.

Level 3

The vast majority (88%) of Level 3 VTQ results (221,095) were for applied general qualifications (195,190 results) such as Cambridge Technicals. The most widely taken subject sector areas are business, administration and law; social sciences; and leisure, travel and tourism. Also, over 25,905 results were issued for tech levels.

T Levels (Level 3)

Whilst the number of students completing relatively new T Level qualifications did increase this year from 11,909 in 2025 to 19,665 in 2026, these numbers represent a very small percentage (less than 3%) of the overall population of 18 year-olds and were spread across 21 pathways. Education and early years was the most popular pathway with 3,780 results. Figures show that T Level retention rates are improving slightly up from 73% last year to 77% in 2026. T Levels have an equal gender balance overall but as to be expected, there are differences across subjects.
