Myles McGinley starts as new Cambridge OCR head
08 September 2025
Myles McGinley has become the new Managing Director of Cambridge OCR today (8 September), succeeding Jill Duffy, who led the major exam board for seven years.
Myles has worked at Cambridge OCR since 2019 as Regulation and Business Performance Director. He has over 20 years of leadership experience in education, assessment and publishing at Pearson, Oxford University Press, Schoolsnet, as well as at Cambridge. He started his career teaching English as a foreign language.
Advocating for change
Last year Myles' team delivered Cambridge OCR's influential Striking the Balance report, which has shaped conversations around education reform and has led the consensus that the volume of exams at GCSE should be reduced.
Myles is an advocate for an open, inclusive and rigorous education system, and in recent years has highlighted the need for action to tackle regional inequalities in education.
Myles McGinley, Managing Director of Cambridge OCR, said: "I'm honoured to lead Cambridge OCR at what is a pivotal time for education in the UK.
"Our new name emphasises our strengths both as a trusted exam board and as part of Cambridge, and underlines our renewed focus on making assessment straightforward. We are uniquely placed to bring together our experience in UK education with Cambridge’s international expertise to help teachers and students achieve their full potential.
"Our insights at Cambridge OCR are already playing their part in giving a voice to students and teachers and improving the education system, and my clear focus will be on putting learners first."
Peter Phillips, Chief Executive of Cambridge University Press & Assessment, said: "Myles has demonstrated the talent and experience needed to lead Cambridge OCR, along with real passion for what is best for students. I am really excited about what Myles and the team can contribute to education in the UK at an important moment of change."
