We currently have two versions of the History A GCSE specification on our website, so please make sure you use the right one.
The most recent version of the specification applies for students who will be assessed from 2021 onwards. We’ve withdrawn some topic options and the date range of the International Relations period study has been shortened.
There are no exams or moderation in June 2021 and results will be based on teacher judgement. The Your guide to the changes for 2021 for this qualification remains available as some of the guidance may still be useful to you and your students.
Refer to our FAQs for the most up-to-date information.
Our GCSE in History A encourages students to develop knowledge of particular key events, periods and societies. They study topics and themes from their local context as well as general British and world history, helping them discover the relevance of the past to an understanding of the present.
