ExamBuilder

ExamBuilder is a test-building platform for a wide range of our qualifications. Choose from a large bank of questions to build personalised tests and custom mark schemes, with the option to add custom cover pages to your tests to simulate real examinations. This allows you to tailor questions and tests to suit the individual needs of your students. You can also use it to edit and download a large number of complete past papers.

ExamBuilder is free for all our centres with an Interchange account and gives you unlimited users per centre.

ExamBuilder access is available only for staff at OCR centres. Once your centre has an ExamBuilder account, existing users can create new users for your centre.

We regularly improve ExamBuilder and update the ExamBuilder FAQs page in response to customer feedback.

Here are some of the recent improvements we’ve made to the service:

Site format

• Fewer pop-up messages to avoid repetition and reduce clicks
• Consistent format for all pop-up messages for clearer messaging
• Removal of duplicate information, making pages simpler to navigate
• OCR Past Papers section moved up to ‘My Tests’ and ‘Shared with me’ area for easier navigation and reduced scrolling

Creating tests

• Use "speech marks" around phrases to narrow down search results when using the keyword search to find questions.
• Easily open and close the question filter window to search for questions or focus on search results
• Click ‘View all filters’ to expand the question filter window and find the questions you need
• Expand individual question view to full screen when adding questions, and expand whole test preview to full screen – great for presenting in the classroom

Editing tests

• When cloning a test, the automatic test name is ‘[cloned test name]_clone’ to clearly show the origin of the test
• Easily copy-paste extra lines in answer spaces in Editable Word test exports to meet your students’ needs
• Select and remove multiple questions at once for increased visibility of the changes you are making to your test
• Undo question removal if you have removed a question from your test by mistake

Finding tests

• The date tests were last updated is shown in My Tests and Shared with me areas to identify the tests you need
• Search bars clearly explain what they search for clear navigation
• Multiple page views in My Tests, Shared with Me and OCR Past Papers when more than 20 tests are available to easily find older tests

We add new questions and qualifications after each exam session.
