A Level sciences practical endorsement
01 December 2015
Online training for subject lead teachers now available
For the attention of the lead teachers in A Level Biology, Chemistry and Physics
In September 2015 all centres were contacted by the Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ), and asked to register their details if they were offering A Levels in Biology, Chemistry or Physics. The registration detailed the awarding organisation whose specification they intend to deliver and a named lead teacher for each science.
Lead teachers are required to undertake the training provided by their awarding organisation on the implementation of the practical endorsement. The training for centres offering A Level sciences is now available.

Lead teachers should complete the training, and then disseminate this information to all other teachers of that science within the centre so that each teacher can apply the standards appropriately across the range of candidates within the centre. Should they wish, the other teachers within each centre can complete the online training too, to obtain an understanding of the requirements.
Centres which have not yet registered with JCQ will have a further opportunity to register in September 2016. In the meantime, unregistered centres should ensure that a lead teacher for each subject undertakes this training, to support the implementation of the practical endorsement arrangements in their centre.
Registered centres will be contacted via their nominated lead teacher to confirm monitoring visit arrangements in due course.
