Minor specification updates for AS and A Level Ancient History
02 September 2025
We have updated the specifications for AS and A Level Ancient History as detailed below.
AS and A Level Ancient History (H007/H407)
- We have updated the ISBN for LACTOR 19: Tiberius to Nero in both specifications.
A Level Ancient History (H407)
- For consistency, we have amended the naming of the Sparta and Athens depth studies to reflect the naming in the sample assessment materials and live question papers.
- In Appendix 5f, we list the prescribed sources for the ‘Rise of Macedon’ depth study. We now specify the prescribed editions for Demosthenes, Diodorus Siculus, Library of History and Justin, Epitome of Trogus. The prescribed editions for Demosthenes and Diodorus Siculus are the relevant Oxford World’s Classics editions. For Justin, Epitome of Trogus, we have created a source booklet which is available on Teach Cambridge.
Please note that students are free to study the sources from any translation. However, the passages on our question papers are taken from the editions listed in the specification, including any amendments as deemed appropriate to the examiners.
You can view and download the specifications for AS Level and A Level Ancient History from the qualification page on our website and Teach Cambridge.
Please make sure you're using the latest versions of our specifications with your students.
