Level 3: Cambridge Technicals in Engineering
01 July 2016
Updated externally-assessed units and sample assessment material
We have updated the unit content, in particular the exemplification column, for the following externally assessed units to add clarity where needed and to support teaching and learning:
- Externally assessed units: 1, 2, 3, 4 and 23.
Where amendments have been made these are identified in the unit by a vertical black line. The updated units should be used for teaching from September 2016.
We have also made cosmetic updates e.g. changes to formula layout and font. (These changes are not been indicated by a vertical black line).
The updated units are available on the Cambridge Technical in Engineering (2015 suite) qualification page of the OCR website and can be found under ‘Units’.
Updated sample assessment material
The sample assessment material for Unit 1 has been amended to include sample questions assessing Learning Outcome 2 (be able to use geometry and graphs in the context of engineering problems).
In addition, we have amended the front cover on the sample assessment material for the five externally assessed Units (Units 1, 2, 3, 4 and 23). The front covers now reflect the rubric of the live papers.
Key points to note are:
- The items candidates must have for each examination.
Information given regarding workings and degree of accuracy:
- Where appropriate, your answers should be supported with working. Marks may be given for a correct method even if the answer is incorrect.
- An answer may receive no marks unless you show sufficient detail of the working to indicate that a correct method is being used.
- Final answers should be given to a degree of accuracy appropriate to the context.
For Units 3 and 23 the following additional instruction to candidates has been included on the front cover:
- The acceleration due to gravity is denoted by g ms-2. Unless otherwise instructed, when a numerical value is needed, use g = 9.8 A new version of the formula booklet is also available. Under AC circuits – resistance and reactance the following formula has been updated.
A new version of the formula booklet is also available. In section 8, 'electrical equations', AC circuits – resistance and reactance, the formula for Xc has been updated.
The updated sample assessment materials and formula booklet are available on the Cambridge Technical in Engineering (2015 suite) qualification page of the OCR website and can be found under 'Sample assessment material' and ‘External assessment’ respectively.
