Withdrawal of Intermediate Level Free-Standing Mathematics Qualification: Foundations of Advanced Mathematics - 6989

Following a review, in light of the reform of general qualifications and changes to funding criteria, we are withdrawing the Intermediate Level Free-Standing Mathematics Qualification (FSMQ): Foundations of Advanced Mathematics 6989.

As a not-for-profit organisation, we offer as broad a range of qualifications to support teachers and students as possible. We regret the loss of any qualification from our suite and recognise this qualification made a unique educational contribution to the curriculum. Despite this, due to recent qualification reform by the government and the exams regulator, lack of recognition in school performance tables and declining entry numbers, we have made the difficult decision to withdraw this qualification.

The final assessment for Intermediate FSMQ will be June 2018. There will not be a resit opportunity.

OCR remains committed to offering the Advanced FSMQ: Additional Mathematics - 6993.

For centres looking for alternative qualifications, we recommend the following:

• For students looking for a stepping stone to AS Maths then OCR Advanced Level FSMQ - 6993 Additional Mathematics would be a good option.
• For students looking to prepare for Higher Education with studies including a statistical element then Level 3 Core Maths – H867 Quantitative Problem Solving would provide this.
• For those wanting to develop their general mathematical skills beyond GCSE then Level 3 Core Maths – H866 Quantitative Reasoning is a good step.
