Withdrawal of GCSE (9–1) Film Studies
04 July 2017
GCSE (9-1) Film Studies
Following a review of OCR’s reformed portfolio we have made the difficult decision to withdraw GCSE (9–1) Film Studies.
We know teachers will be finalising their choice of awarding body and starting to prepare to teach new reformed specifications for the next academic year. Therefore, OCR has reluctantly made this decision now so teachers can make alternative plans for teaching in September 2017. We are pleased to confirm WJEC's Eduqas qualification is accredited and available as a GCSE (9–1) Film Studies.
OCR remains committed to offering the recently accredited AS and A Level Film Studies, for first teaching in September 2017.
OCR recently achieved accreditation for AS Media Studies and is committed to continuing work on achieving accreditation for GCSE (9–1) and A Level Media Studies, for first teaching in September 2017.
As a not-for-profit organisation, we are committed to offering as broad a range of qualifications to support teachers and learners as possible. We regret the loss of any subject from our qualification portfolio. However, feedback from centres suggests take up of this qualification would be insufficient for OCR to appropriately deliver and support it.
