GCSE Mathematics Qualifications

Reminder: GCSE Mathematics options from first teaching in 2015
For students beginning two-year GCSE programs from September 2015, centres should be delivering the new GCSE (9–1) Mathematics (J560) qualification.
The new GCSE (9–1) Mathematics (J560) qualification replaces GCSE Mathematics A (J562), GCSE Mathematics B (J567) and the linked pair pilot (GCSE Applications of Mathematics (J925) and GCSE Methods in Mathematics (J926)) qualifications. These will be examined for the final time in June 2016 for first time entries, with a resit opportunity in November 2016 (tbc).

Any centres currently offering qualifications in GCSE Mathematics A (J562), GCSE Mathematics B (J567) or the linked pair pilot – GCSE Applications of Mathematics (J925) and GCSE Methods in Mathematics (J926) – will need to ensure that they have moved to the new GCSE (9-1) Mathematics (J560) qualification for first teaching beginning September 2015.
The last entry date for students currently following the GCSE Mathematics A (J562), GCSE Mathematics B (J567) or the linked pair pilot – GCSE Applications of Mathematics (J925) and GCSE Methods in Mathematics (J926) – for certification in June 2016 is 21 February 2016.
*Resit arrangements are still to be confirmed. Ofqual, the regulator for qualifications, examinations and assessments in England, has launched a public consultation on resits for legacy GCSEs, AS and A levels. You can find more information and give your views on the consultation via the Gov.uk website. This consultation closes on 2 February 2016. Please note, initial proposals suggested that for the linked pair pilot there would not be a November 2016 resit opportunity, however the option of a November 2016 resit opportunity has been included in the consultation.
