Withdrawal of AS/A Level Travel and Tourism, AS/A Level Leisure Studies and GCSE Leisure and Tourism
The former Secretary of State for Education, Michael Gove, initiated the reform of GCSEs and AS, and A Levels in February 2013, asking Ofqual to implement changes that would lead to new qualifications. As a consequence of this programme of reform, lack of recognition in school performance tables and funding criteria changes OCR and other awarding bodies made the difficult decision not to redevelop GCE Travel and Tourism, GCE Leisure Studies and GCSE Leisure and Tourism. Therefore, the current qualifications will be withdrawn at the conclusion of the final assessment series. Learners starting any of these qualifications in September 2016 will be the last full two-year cohort.
We will continue to support and assess the qualifications up to the conclusion of the final assessment series, as follows:

GCSE, AS and A Level qualifications in these subjects are not currently being redeveloped by any awarding bodies. However, centres may wish to look on the
Ofqual Register of Regulated Qualifications for information on vocational qualifications in travel, tourism and leisure studies provided by other awarding bodies.
