Responding to changing demand: Cambridge OCR withdraws some low-entry qualifications 19 March 2026

Cambridge OCR will withdraw some low-entry general qualifications, as we respond to changing teacher and learner demands.

Demand for AS Level qualifications nationally has declined significantly over the past decade, and we have carried out a detailed review of demand for our qualifications to ensure we continue to meet the needs of teachers and students.

The qualifications withdrawn, listed in full on this page, are mostly AS Level qualifications with very low entries, to be assessed for the final time in June 2027, as well as some smaller and shrinking cohort A Level and GCSE qualifications to be assessed for the final time in June 2028. Cambridge OCR will continue to offer a wide range of GCSEs, AS Levels and A Levels.

A Cambridge OCR spokesperson said: “We pride ourselves in our broad suite of qualifications, and don’t take the decision to withdraw from any qualification lightly. This has been the result of an extensive review, as well as our research into how schools and colleges use our qualifications. This decision will help us to grow and reach more learners with our aim of making assessment straightforward.”
