Amended specification for GCSE Mathematics
29 August 2025
Following feedback from teachers, we have amended the specification for GCSE Mathematics J560.
We confirm that from the summer 2026 exam series onwards, students will not need to memorise the meaning of terms in kinematic equations, ie the definitions of ‘s’, ‘u’, ‘v’, ‘a’ and ‘t’.
To reflect this, we have added the following text to the content reference 6.02e on page 22 of the specification:
- ‘Knowledge of the definition of each letter will not be required’
You can view and download the updated GCSE Mathematics specification on our website and Teach Cambridge.
There is no change in the approach to marking.
If you have any queries about this update, please call our Customer Support Centre on 01223 553998 or email maths@ocr.org.uk.
