Cambridge National in Engineering Design Level 1/Level 2 (J822) – Unit R039: Communicating designs

Following feedback from teachers, we’ve amended the title of the Unit R039 Topic Area 2 as follows:

• ‘Topic Area 2: Manual production of engineering drawings’ is now ‘Topic Area 2: Production of engineering drawings’

To reflect this change, we’ve amended the Cambridge National in Engineering Design specification (version 6), which you can view and download from the qualification page on our website and Teach Cambridge.

We’ve also amended the Topic Area 2 title, where applicable, in our planning and teaching, assessment and administration documents for the Cambridge National in Engineering Design – Unit R039:

• Scheme of work: Communications designs (version 1.2)
• Curriculum planner (version 1.3)
  
• Mapping guide (version 1)
• Sample set assignment: Communicating designs (version 4)
• Unit recording sheet (MS Word – version 4, November 2024)
• Unit recording sheet (PDF – version 4, November 2024)

Note: In addition, we have also amended the set assignment which is valid for assessment in the January 2025 and June 2025 assessment series – you can view and download this from Teach Cambridge.

Please make sure you’re using the correct version of the specification, unit recording sheets and all other materials with your students when they complete their non-examined assessments (NEA) for the 2025 series.
